Jacksonville Carpet Tiles Reviews

Mercury Carpet of Jacksonville

In 1959 Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Namen married and settled in Jacksonville, Fl. Their first business venture began with the purchase of Washland cleaners on Hendricks Ave. They expanded to five locations both Dry Cleaning and coin laundry. Being involved in the cleaning of fine draperies led the Namen’s to expand the business into designing and manufacturing custom draperies, this eventually led us into the flooring industry.

In 1970 Mercury Carpet opened its doors in a converted gas station, located on St Augustine Rd. The bay areas were loaded with rolls of carpet and the showroom was a 10x10 area where the attendant used to sell oil and coolant. In just one year’s time the business grew, as did the need for a larger facility. In 1971, they purchased our current location at 5911 Beach Blvd. (Beach and University Blvd)

In 1989 and fresh out of college and armed with a business degree from Auburn University, John Namen, Joseph and Vicki’s youngest child became the new owner of Mercury Carpet. Giving his parents a well-deserved break. John grew up in the carpet warehouse so it was only natural for him to now run the store. In 2001 Dan Tristan became John’s partner in business. Dan had been with Mercury Carpet for the past thirteen years before this partnership was formed. In January of 2002, George Tristan was hired on to bring Mercury Carpet’s computer system up to date, to one that is now state of the art. He is currently a member of our sales staff. The newest addition to the Mercury family is Cristal Devenburg who joined us in 2005.

Through the years the showroom and warehouse has expanded and now showcases over 10,000 sq ft of Flooring, including Carpet, Hardwood Floors, Laminate, Marble, Granite, Sheet Vinyl, Solid Vinyl Tiles, Porcelain and Ceramic Tiles, Cork, Bamboo, Travertine and finishing touches like Area Rugs and Window Treatments. We provide professional installation for all the products sold at Mercury Carpet. Our installers are certified specialist. We are dedicated to making your experience the best it can be.

The underlying factor to our success has been the special relationships that have developed over the years, and our commitment to good service that is consistent. We do what we say we are going to do. We know how important and difficult your flooring decision can be. For this reason we stay up to date with the most current products and styles so we can inform you of the best possible choices, so that you are prepared to make a sound decision. We know if we continue to offer good service, we will continue to be a successful company. For 40 years we have been very proud to be serving Jacksonville and its surrounding communities. We are a local family continuing the dream to decorate homes in our second generation of operation. We look forward to the opportunity to help you too!!

Carpet tiles consist normally of bonded carpet. Their main advantage is that you can replace a damaged or worn area without having to replace the whole carpet. Tiles from underneath furniture, for example, can be swapped with those in high-traffic area to even out wear. They also allow easy access to under-floor wiring or plumbing. Extra replacement tiles should be purchased with the main batch, as those brought at a later date will almost certainly be slightly different color.

Carpet tile turns the messy, awkward job of carpet installation into a quick and easy one. Placement requires less time and few special tools. This type of flooring can be chosen for any room. The pile is not as dense as that in rolled carpet, but it can serve well in both high and low traffic areas.

Carpet tile
Carpet tile (or "carpet squares") normally comes in one size: 18 x l8 inches. Varying thickness’ and patterns are available, as well as hundreds of different colors. They can be purchased either dry-backed or self-sticking. The dry-backed version needs a special adhesive or, for less permanent jobs, double-faced tape. These can go over almost any surface, as long as it is clean and dry. However, it is not highly recommended for use in below-ground areas, such as a basement, because it could mildew.
